I know this is a terrible thing to say, but I often find lots to critique in Jesse’s writing. Most of the time, this is because we write for different genres. There are things that are permissible, even encouraged in philosophic writing that are huge no-no’s to people in English studies. This makes it challenging, if not impossible, when he asks me to edit the papers he is submitting for class.
Yesterday, however, Jesse wrote a review of Derek Webb’s new album that I think is brilliant. He had been ruminating on how to put into words what he and his friends felt when they listened to it, and when he finally put his words down last night, they really came together.
