I’m totally floored. Gregory has just started responding to the word, “NO”. On a day to day basis, he crawls towards the cords sticking out of the power strip more times than I can count. Cords, especially dangerous ones, are like Odysseus’ sirens– they sweetly call his name, luring him in.
For the past two days, however, whenever we see him going towards them, moving from his sitting position to his crawl (he’s pretty good at that now!), we say a calm, low, “NO”. And you know what? He stops! Looks at us, looks at the cords, and sits back up! This goes on over and over again, sometimes 10-12 times in a row (I think he forgets, and the call of the sirens is hard to ignore. Let’s be understanding here). He stops EVERY TIME we say, “NO” !
Lest you think I’m imagining things (I wondered yesterday, for reals), Jesse told me that he’d observed the same thing, before I even had a chance to run it by him. Jesse’s a much more reliable source, I think we all know that.
Obviously, this isn’t my kid. Somewhere, he got switched with an obedient baby. My parents can confirm that if they had told ME “no”, it only made me want it all the more.
Maybe Gregory will develop a “willful” side, but for now, it just looks like he wants to please us. I can deal with that.
On a related note, is it bad that I keep giving him finger food treats, every time he obeys me now? I realized, halfway through, that this is how you train a dog…oops.
