cue the drumroll.
cue the male snoring.
I took a quick picture of my 98% organic/chemical free stash. If anything, I think it will be fun to look back on in a year.
1. Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle body wash: Love this stuff. And it does tingle! Which makes me feel like I’m bathing in champagne. Or maybe I just drank some with the Unruhs tonight, and everything feels a bit…bubbly…
2. Nature’s Gate, Awapuhi Shampoo and Conditioner: So far, so love! The name, however…Awapuhi? Is that a fruit? A flower? Starfish feces?
Follow-up note after some quick googling: Awapuhi is a Hawaiian flower. And Starfish poop the same way they eat. Seriously. The next time Jesse cusses, I’m calling him Starfish Mouth.WATCH ME.
But how cool would that be if Starfish feces had a name?
3. Burt’s Bees Mint toothpaste. No sodium lauryl sulfate, which has all but nixed my huge canker sore problem. I have friends that have had drastic results with it as well. Plus, so minty fresh!
4. Yes to Cucumbers eye cream: works for the time being. Really, when you get as little sleep as I do, it’s hard to tell if those eye bags are giant crescent moons, or just baby hammocks for tiny shadow fairies. Yes, I just thought up a whole storybook tale about my dark eye bags. Sheesh. And you thought the chemicals were the neurological inhibitors!
5. ZumZum Lavender/oatmeal bar soap. You can see its slimy wetness, over there in the lower left corner. Jesse got this for me for Valentine’s Day, and even though I’ve never been a bar soap fan, I LOVE it and I’m now hooked. Not much smaller than it was back in February, and leaves my hands feeling so soft, I hardly use lotion on them!
6. Bare Minerals powder foundation: the only thing I’ve used for the past 3 years. LOVE. Withstands texas summers, doesn’t get too dry in the winter.
7. Au Naturel Almond Face Cream: Just yesterday, someone at the store stopped me to say how nice my skin looked. I told him it was mostly the professional plastic surgeons, but also because I barf on myself.
In all seriousness, if you still trust me at all after that last comment, this stuff is really nice. $5 for the jar, and after a month, I’ve barely made a dent in it. It’s pretty thick, so a little goes a long way. Just like barf.
8. Giovanni Organics L.A. Hold Hairspray: Not sticky feeling, but it does have hold (a rare find in hairsprays!). I was absolutely determined to get an all natural hairspray, just because it’s the one product you can’t avoid inhaling. Plus, Gregory is usually nearby when I use it (he loves watchin momma get pretty!), and there’s no way I want him breathing that stuff! Most of the hairsprays I researched were rated 9 out of 10 on the toxicity report.
9. No Tears Eye Makeup Remover: Haven’t actually used this yet, but got it for a few bucks at Central Market. We’ll see how it goes– I have really sensitive eyes that burn if I don’t remove every last trace of any makeup.
10. Better Botanicals Chamomile Cleanser– I can’t say whether I like the almond cream or this better. Frankly, it all starts with the cleanser. If you strip the skin, it reacts by making more, probably too much, oil. Plus, it feels tight and icky in the meantime! I’m a huge fan of chamomile in face products, since they calm everything down. We could all use some calming. HEAR THAT GREGORY? No, you can’t, you’re finally sleeping. Actually, come to think of it, Gregory’s natural teething gel is made with chamomile as well. Maybe if I bathe him in chamomile….?
Oh, and there’s writing on the bottle because Central Market doesn’t carry this particular cleanser any longer, and gave me the rest of the tester (practically full!) for free! I will have to special order this from now on, however.
11. Tarte’s Rest Assured Brightening Wand and Mascara: Anything you put near your eyes is important. Drugstore mascara, in particular, has a lot of mercury in it. You know, that stuff that they banned from thermometers. The FDA cannot regulate the cosmetic industry, and so there’s mercury in your mascara. Seriously, Al Qaeda has nothing on Cover Girl.
12. Burt’s Bees Rosewater Toner: If I’m in a rush in the morning and can’t wash my face, I use a cotton swab to brush this stuff on. It smells aaaammmaaazing. Seriously, who doesn’t like smelling like roses? Also, it will be a nice midday skin refresher during the sticky heat of summer. Maybe I’ll even put it in the refrigerator for a time…who knows? Living on the edge, over here!
13. EO French Lavender Hand Lotion. Noticing a theme? I love Lavender! Also, every time I’ve used the word “Lavender” thus far, I’ve misspelled it.
14. Lil’ Tulips hand-made chapstick: Every time I order a product from this website, she sends me a free handmade chapstick! I have 6 of them that I stash everywhere– by my bed, in the medicine cabinet, in the dungeon, in my purse….
15. Nature’s Gate aluminum free deodorant: In 2 more weeks, I’ll let you know if I have any friends left.
16. Zum Tum Lavender bath salts: Another Valentine’s gift from Jesse. Has the best slogan ever: Leave your troubles to the bubbles.
Still on the lookout for: eye shadows, eye liners and nail polish. Any suggestions?

I had a dream about your shampoo last night! haha…it must have been because I read your blog right before going to bed but I dreampt I was at your house and I used your shampoo without asking you because I was so curious and it was in the shower…and then afterwards I was super paranoid you would recognize the smell on me. maybe this dream means I should just go and get some of my own 😉

Have you tried Yes to Cucumber’s shampoo? I really like it, and for me it the best combo of price and ingredients.

I get it at Target.

Oh, I laughed so hard when I read this the first time. “Starfish mouth”? YES! My mom, sister, and I have been using Bare Escentuals for years (in fact, since they were an exclusively body product line waaaay back before they branched into cosmetics. I’m pretty sure their lotions and foot care products are what saved my ballerina feet from scars and disfigurement…:P) Love them so. I also use their eye shadow – but I apply it with a flat damp brush, because otherwise it’s too “flaky” and not pigmented enough for my lids.
When you find a liner that you love, let me know! Especially if it’s somehow a gel eyeliner! I’m still working through a non-organic/chem. free pot of gel eyeliner (that I love) but have been tempted by Tarte’s Amazonian clay eyeliner…
Also, lavender is the BEST. Love the smell, love the taste…(seriously: it’s my favorite milk tea, and my favorite gelato is lavender and honey.)
