I bought a new stroller yesterday. I don’t think I mentioned this on the blog, but when we left CA I sold my double BOB. Yes, the one I saved for and found at a great price on Craigslist. I was actually able to sell it for $40 more than what I originally bought it for.
Why did I sell it after working so hard to get it?
Well, it’s huge and a beast. And since our small moving crate was already full and we were FLYING to Dallas, I didn’t see a way to transport it. Which is also kinda the reason we sold our one car, the Rav 4 (didn’t mention that either, did I! My brother gave us his 2005 Ford Freestyle, and Jesse’s job is only 2 min. from our front door).
I plan on using public transportation a lot while we’re here because it’s cheap and kids ride free under 5. Buses and trains are MUCH safer than cars, and can I tell you how much easier it is to walk onto a train instead of buckling in two kids in 100 degree heat? The Dallas rail system has a phone app now where I can click and buy a pass for $2.50 and keep the barcode ready on my phone for them to scan. No paper, no machines, easier than writing an email!
Anyways, back to the stroller. The BOB was nice once it was up, but so huge to transport. There is NO WAY I would’ve been able to lug a huge stroller in my hands along with two toddlers onto public transportation. After a ton of research, I realized that if I got a Phil and Teds double stroller or a compact single stroller with a click on ride-board on back, I wouldn’t actually need to collapse the stroller when getting on the bus or train, since it met the size requirements. In other words, I could have AJ buckled in, get on the train, put on the stroller brake, and be done! Gregory’s almost 4 and doesn’t like being in the stroller most of the time anyways. Having the ride-board on back will mean that when he’s tired he can “skateboard” while I push.
Not to mention that the used city-mini I got was only $60 on Craigslist (I sold my BOB for $340!), and folds up with one swift hand motion using a strap in the middle. And it weights less than any stroller I’ve ever seen at only 22 pounds (the BOB was close to 40!). It actually has a shoulder strap for carrying it around like a purse!!
After trying this in person yesterday, I can tell you that it really is this easy!
I cannot wait to try this out, so as soon as the ride-board comes in the mail, I see another trip to downtown or to the zoo in our immediate future! More updates to come, I’m sure!
For shopping purposes:
Phil and Teds Double (on my “someday” list!)
BOB Duallie (the one I just sold)

Don’t be too excited about the stacked doubles – we had an Uppa with the Rumble Seat and neither kiddo liked the behind seat because they couldn’t see and felt too cramped 🙁 Side by side and the skateboard attachment pieces have been happier for us all 🙂 Just my 2 cents!
