Even though it is late and I am incredibly ex-haw-haw-haw-sted, I feel the urgent need to at least take the first stab at describing all that I’ve been doing these past couple days here at home in CA.
After spending 2 wonderful days at home, my family and I went on a special vacation to San Francisco for the July 4th weekend. We didn’t do anything incredible, mostly ate yummy food and got lost around the city, but it’s way better that way. Instead of owing allegiance to some museum or tour, we got to spend time focused on one another, a rare occurrence since we’re soon to be spread all around the country (South Carolina, Texas, Washington and California, to be exact)!
I don’t have many pictures, just the ones I took on my camera phone. I will post a few of my sister’s pictures once I can figure out how to get them off of her “fancy shmancy” camera.
On our way home, we stopped in Livermore, where my beloved roomie from college, Kristen Murphy, used to live. Currently, she is at UC Santa Barbara getting her PhD (I shouldn’t even be taking a stab at this, but I think she’s studying nano-bio-chemical-something-or-other?), but she just happened to be home for the week since she also works part-time at the lab up there. Accompanied by her cheerful and bubbly mom, Jean, we all went out for burgers and had a great time catching up. I feel so blessed that so far I’ve been able to not only keep in contact by phone and email with Kristen, but also get to see her in person once or twice a year! She’s a wonderful girl and a great example of someone who can be wildly successful in their career and academic studies while still being personable and tender-hearted. Both of them also got to tell us stories about their recent trip to China!
The next stop on our way home was one of the most testosterone laden places I have ever been– a Fry’s Electronics in San Jose, completely outfitted in a Mayan Indian motif. We stopped here on our way home to make up for the fact that we ladies had gone shopping at a mall while the boys waited.
Stay tuned! MUCH much more to come tomorrow!
