A few hours ago we dropped Justin and Chelsea off at the airport after taking them for one last breakfast at Buon Giorno coffee in Grapevine.
The visit started on Friday, wherein they flew in to DFW at around 1:30 ish. I didn’t pick them up until 3:00 because I was frantically cleaning Clara-pee-spots off of the carpet (they bug ME so much, I thought for sure that it’s the first thing EVERYONE notices!). Jesse had already done it the night before, but lo and behold, they refused to go away and instead kept magically reappearing. I had a bad moment as I was cleaning, where I thought, “I’ll bet Jesse DIDN’T even clean them! I’ll bet he lied just to get me off his back!” Then I realized that this was silly, and where on earth do these distrusting thoughts keep coming from??
Anyways, back to the part of the story where I can’t tell time and left our wonderful friends waiting at the airport. I was pretty sure that Chelsea had said she had accounting homework she could work on in the event that someone wasn’t available to pick them up immediately. I, however, was available since our school has been out since Wednesday due to the Swine Flu. I just wasn’t available in the…sanity sense of the word.
Nevertheless, I picked them up and brought them home for a quick snack of cheese and salami. Jesse finished his Greek class and met us there where we all traveled down to Fort Worth to see my deserted swine flu-ridden school. Actually, don’t be scared. Swine Flu only grows on children who wipe their noses on their hands, touch pencils, turn in papers to my desk…
Okay, so they disinfected the school on Friday. I’ve been disinfecting myself a lot. Whatever that means.
After seeing St. Peter’s, we stopped at Chipotle for dinner. Then we got gas at Sam’s Club.
Turns out, in addition to buying gas we also bought AIR BUBBLES in our gas. I don’t remember agreeing to pay for that.
After our car started jumping, we got out at a Shell Station and bought some stuff that Justin recommended. We decided to push our luck with the car and continue home, especially since we knew that if it had been mechanical it wouldn’t have been an intermittent problem.
At home, we watched our favorite show Dollhouse with Michael (who was very lonely seeing as Courtney and Toph were in Houston visiting Christine). The Shelbys retired early, seeing as they hadn’t gotten any sleep the night before due to their 6am flight.
The next day we made an applewood bacon/eggs/toast/OJ breakfast. At the tail end of it Michael showed up with Courtney, Christine and Toph who he had just picked up from the airport. We sat around talking until it was time to leave for Vespers at St. Seraphim.
Once that was over, we took them in the midst of the torrential rain to our favorite restaurant, Glorias! I’m pretty sure that if you have visited us, you have been to Glorias. If not, we have failed you.
After eating we retired to the Unruhs apt. where we hooked up the computer to the TV and watched our favorite So You Think You Can Dance videos on Youtube. Really, we are all excited about the American Idol finale because it means that SYTYCD begins. Really. I am not at all attracted to Adam Lambert’s black nail polish or his high 80’s hair-metal band voice. Plus he’s….batting for the other team, if you know what I’m saying.
On Sunday, we went to church (as is our custom, who would’ve thunk it?) and introduced the Shelbys to a few of our church friends, including Katherine, my boss’ wife, who is getting her PhD in English at UD and is writing her dissertation on Modern Poetry.
We then took them to some real Texas BBQ at Dickey’s and showed them our old home at the Tuscan Villas. We drove to Central Market, got a few supplies for Courtney’s Bday party, ran into Courtney and Christine who were buying the Beef Brisket, sampled the salsas and margaritas in the store, and then continued home for a few naps before the party.
At around 6, we showed up at the Unruhs for the birthday celebration, of which I did not take ANY pictures (so sorry! Totally meant to!). Among the guests were the Gallimores, Gaspards, Snells, and Jenny. We ate BBQ brisket, German Chocolate cake, and talked about everything from Biola’s Financial Aid Scandals to the Orthodox Church’s stance on Birth Control. Chelsea also gave many of us wonderful neck or feet massages!
Which brings us to this morning where went the Shelbys off with Cappuccinos and Danishes in their stomachs. We DIDN’T get lost at DFW, despite all of our previous encounters with this Manhattan sized beast, and we were even able to say goodbye and let them go.
TTFN! TaTa for now!
