Jesse and I were sitting in the living room this morning, when all of a sudden, BAM, the walls were shaking, and there was a very loud noise. It last for only 3 seconds, but the apartment continued to slightly sway for another 10 (we’re on the 3rd floor).
We looked at one another. As Californians, we knew what that felt like, but we really couldn’t believe it. An earthquake? In Texas?
I went outside the door of our apt. and could hear people talking downstairs. People had emptied from their apartments on the first floor, and were incredulous, exclaiming things like, “What was that?” “Did someone hit the building with a car?” “Is someone moving in and dropped a couch on the third floor?” It’s interesting to see how people try to explain an earthquake if they’ve never been in one.
Later, when I got in the car, a guy called in to the local radio station. “Hey ya’ll,” he said over the air. “We just had an earthquake over here in Euless! All my stuff, like, fell off the shelf, Man!”
Sure enough, we did. 3.3. Jesse and I just felt a tiny 1 second aftershock a few minutes ago. Here’s the seismic report.
So now we have tornadoes, lightning storms, grapefruit-sized hail, AND tornadoes. And if you live in Galveston, hurricanes.
Like they said, everything’s bigger in Texas!
