Family Visits

March 26, 2008 1 Comment

This week my family drove down from California to see Jesse and I for Spring Break. We stayed at the Voss Villa (as I am going to call it from now on) for two nights, enabling us to enjoy the Riverwalk, Alamo and sightseeing around San Antonio. From there we drove up to Austin and checked out the University and Capitol Building.

That night we pulled into Dallas at around 11pm, where all 7 of us fit into our tiny apt. It was rather enjoyable, actually, once the sleeping arrangements got…well, arranged. In Dallas we did a lot of sightseeing, visited the Arboretum, enjoyed Easter lunch at La Madeleine’s, and, everyone’s favorite, played Apples to Apples. It was great, instead of going out to eat that night we chose to make tofu spaghetti (thanks to 3 of us being vegan!) and play this awesome game.

I was first introduced to it when we went to an impromptu game night that Fr. John and about 15 other parishioners organized. Normally, Jesse hates boardgames, and so we were skeptical, but the group was able to play it for a good 2 hrs. without stopping or getting bored. So, naturally, I wanted to put the game to another test and see if it could provide a few more hours of enjoyment for my family. We went and bought it, and Voila! Hours and hours of fun! No one wanted to stop, but unfortunately playing a board game until 1am isn’t as much fun when my dad accidentally falls asleep and serenades us with snoring…

Here are a few pictures, along with a link to the others.

Super Bowl Party

WOW, what a crazy finish to a game! I used to think our friend Heather was quiet and reserved, but that was until I saw her jumping off the sofa in excitement (okay, I didn’t see her because I was jumping up and down too..).

We had our friends Carissa and Photius and their two kids, Isaac and Genevieve over, along with their sister Jenny and our newly chrismated friend Heather (her husband Josh couldn’t make it, seeing as he had SERIOUS amounts of homework due tomorrow for grad school). Isaac and Genevieve were absolute terrors, but so cute and fun that it was quite a delight. Actually, Mirabelle didn’t think so- she spent some serious time growling and hissing at them. Genevieve kept trying to pet her!! Oh well, this just means that next time we’ll need safer “toys” (or pets) for them to play with!

A plus- we finally opened our first bottle of wine since coming to Dallas! I know I know…..anyways, it was a Paso Robles Zin, and all of them were like, “Wow! What great wine!” It’s always fun to say, “Yeah, that came from our hometown!”

Here are a few pictures, but for all of them, go to my Facebook.

I am very proud of all the cooking we did- I personally homemade cookies, spinach dip, and baked brie with brown sugar and pecans. Jesse experimented and made excellent buffalo wings. Admittedly, it was with with resigned humor that all of us girls got to talking instead of even remotely paying attention to the game! Oh well, the first 3 quarters were basically a stale-mate anyways. All that changed in those final 10 minutes- so exciting!!!! I am glad Heather is a fellow football fan- we both love the Colts. I never thought my hands could hurt so much from clapping.

Even if we didn’t pay attention to the entire game, it was wonderful to have people to talk to. I’m glad Jesse and I finally made a commitment to reach out this semester!

So far, “Project Socialization” – success!

More Apt. Pics

There were a few fun things that I neglected to take pictures of last time, so as I am cleaning for our Super Bowl party tomorrow, I will post a few more.

I am now very into decals. Here are some:

The first one is around our bedroom light switch. The second is Mr. Owl in the guest bed area. The third is also in the guest bed area, but is appropriate since our wall of bookshelves are also in there. I love how you can see the missing blinds- still haven’t gotten around to having maintenance come and fix them!

Here’s the shelf that Jesse made me a few months ago using an old shutter I found at an antique store paired with some Anthropologie shelf brackets.

In our guest bedroom, we also have a new comforter cover and sheets. I ordered the cover way back in October, but entered in the wrong zip code so it took 4 months for Urban Outfitters to sort it out. Now it’s finally here!

The birdies:

The sheets:

That’s it! I’ll be posting pics of our party tomorrow!

For Chocolate Lovers Only

November 19, 2007 2 Comments

Yesterday, I had an affair with my best friend. Also, the universe collided and I had three of my favorite people visit me at the same time.

Okay, what really happened is Tess was flying home for Thanksgiving and had a layover in DFW airport. Now, she had told me this much earlier, but I didn’t put two and two together to realize that she would be here when my mom and Janelle were visiting. So she gives me a call telling me that her flight will be in at 4:15, and we should hang out until 6! We spared no expense and kidnapped her, taking her to my apartment to hang out for a bit (since we are less than 10 min. away from the airport).

It’s really a lot of fun having Tess here, not just because we’ve been hanging out for 17 years, but also because she is great friends with my mom and sister. She not only accepts our goofy-off-the-wall-Honeycutt-randomness, but she joins the fun. For instance, I had not told Jesse anything about Tess’ possible visit, so when we got back to the apt., we simply had her unlock the door and just walk in as though nothing were out of the ordinary. Jesse was just a tad bit surprised.

Here are even more examples of our weirdness when we’re together:

Once we had to bring Tess back to the airport after her brief hangout with us, my mom and I went shopping at Kohls, then picked up Jesse and Janelle and went to hang out with Katie, Christiana, and John in Downtown Dallas at a “Chocolate and Wine” cafe. It was a lot of fun, mainly because we love chocolate and coffee and late hours of the night, and also because there was a live Jazz band.

Here’s a little of what it was like:

Try to guess what Christiana’s sign language means:)

Believe it or not, she’s actually saying, “Statuatory Rape”. It’s sorta an inside joke. Don’t worry if you don’t understand.

We hung out with them all today too, as is typical after church. Today was a little different, however, because in honor of my mother we set up a Scrabble board at La Madeleine’s and held a huge game! I was a little sleepy, but it was so nice to be with friends and family at the same time….sorta like Thanksgiving! Only…..a little premature:)
