Last year, Jesse and I spent the 4th of July watching fireworks on TV and eating tofu burgers (it was a Friday). Talk about stereotype confusion?
This year, we decided to actually spend the holiday with some of our closest friends- well, most of them anyway. The Unruhs are in San Antonio with family. Luckily, God has surrounded us with wonderful people who love us and enjoy just hanging out and talking.
Once Vespers and Vigil were over, we convened at Heather and Josh’s house and grilled hotdogs and sausage links. Afterwards we sampled Heather’s 4th of July tradition- fruit pizza made with sugar cookie crust and cream cheese frosting! The top is supposed to be covered with enough blueberries and strawberries to look like a flag, but alas, kiwis were cheaper 🙂
And we fully intended to make it to the fireworks show, really we did. But we were having such a good time chillin’ that we voted to skip the fireworks and stay home. We even ended the night with a little more singing, as Jenny, Heather and I perfected our Wailin’ Jennys song.
