Cooking!

I’ll admit, I’m not much of a cook. But you know that doesn’t stop me from trying, even if everyone wishes I would ;)

So, armed with an inspirational playlist (mix of Fleet Foxes, Priscilla Ahn, Alison Krauss, John Mayer and The Wailin Jennys), I stayed up late to cook. Better cooks could pull of pulling stuff out of the oven in between attending to a baby, but not me. It takes my complete and undivided attention to avoid getting burnt, getting frustrated, vowing to only eat fast food from now on…

What did I make? you ask.

For starters, I made a batch of 30 granola bars, complete with chocolate chips, almonds and raisins. I have decided to start identifying those things which we buy packaged, and make them instead! Voila! Saving the environment one box of cereal bars at a time! Plus, it cost me $3 to make 30 of them…pretty affordable, if you ask me! And, I know there are no nasty processed chemicals in them. Next time, I’ll try experimenting with adding things like edamame and flaxseed oil.

Next (or during/in between) I made 20 jars of organic babyfood– carrots, sweet potatoes, prunes, pears and bananas. I spent around $5 in food…so that comes out to 25 cents a jar. Organic babyfood is typically 79 cents a jar, store-bought, so I did great!!! Plus, I again have the assurance of knowing there is no chemicals/pesticides in G’s food– just the organic fruit/veggie, and a little of the water I used to boil it in! Most baby food is made with reject fruits and veggies (since they’ll be pureed anyways), so I think this is especially important.

I re-use jars for convenience

On tomorrow’s list is baking 2 loaves of bread, dinner for us and the Unruhs (in exchange for watching G while I teach piano lessons), and some cleaning supplies concoctions (those aren’t for eating…).
