Beginnings of a baby blanket

I’ve begun work on the crib bedding set. I did say that this was a perfect 3rd trimester project…but hey, that’s only a few weeks away!  So I’m getting a head start.

Last night, we went to the Gaspards for the youth movie night that Jesse was leading. Katie offered to help me sew, and I couldn’t turn down an extra pair of hands! Here are the beginnings of the baby blanket that will hang over the side of the crib. I decided against making crib bumpers, because of this and this article.

Oh, yes, and why owls, instead of elephants? Well….lest you think I’m being fickle….I’m actually being FRUGAL. That elephant fabric was $20/yard. The crib skirt needed 4 yards. Do the math, it’s not cheap! Instead, I decided just to buy gray fabric for $4/yard at Joanns and do my own designs. When I went to cut out elephants…it’s tricky. Owls were way simpler. Really, it came down to practicality!

The fabric is wrinkled because I just pulled it out of the dryer

Katie’s 4 year old son, James, was adorable while we were making these. Apparently, he’s totally obsessed with owls right now– spends time Googling (yes, it’s a verb) pictures of them. He said to me, with a sigh, “One day, I hope that I’m old enough to know how to make owls! That would be awesome.”

Painted Baby Room

It’s done! With the help of my husband and my friend Jenny, we projected the birch tree image up on the wall, sketched it, and then painted!

What a man....working all day, then coming home to help me paint!

Almost done!

Finished!

23 weeks…and growing…

I keep meaning to take better pictures of “Gregory” and never get around to it. I took one for Tess with my camera phone last night, so I thought rather than hope I take another one, I post it.

The whale belly, in all its glory. Thus far, I've gained 10 pounds in 6 months. Ah!

There was a time that I used to look like this. Really. I was about 2 years old. Hence, my nickname, “Kelly Belly”. Or “Thunder Thighs”. Yes, my parents should have been eating disorder specialists.

Weekly Deals

Maybe it’s just my mother who likes these posts. Whatever. Deal (get it? WEEKLY deal?). I want to have pictures of these things, just in case Gregory comes out like his ginormous predecessors (if you don’t believe me, again, take a look at Jesse’s 6’9″ brother) and he never gets to wear any of these cute things. At LEAST I will have pictures. Even if Gregory is not in them.

This is also the last week I will be able to go garage sale-ing for a while, as by next weekend I will be in California, visiting my family!
