I echo everything Andrea said, right down to being a public school teacher and just wanting to do more for these children we see in our classrooms every day. You’re an inspiration and it’s so fantastic to be able to get a little bit if insight and wisdom about fostering from you.

I thought about just saying “parenting” in general, but then again, some of the tactics are overkill for an un-traumatized child, like giving chemo to someone with a cold

Andrea, I’m so glad you’re considering foster parenting. Since I’ve been reading your blog for a while, I know you’ll be great at it. Reality checks are what I needed before becoming a foster parent. It would’ve helped with some of the surprise and crazy

I really feel like this could be applied to all kinds of parenting! (And even marriages) I’m sure foster kids need it much more but so many kinds of people would also benefit from having a strong, stable base line that they know they can count on.

Kelly thank you for writing this, and for processing this way. It’s hugely inspiring and helpful to me. I too, am a processor and need to think, and then write my heart out. My husband and I are looking forward to having foster kids sometime in the next 5 to 10 years, and your blog has become a great reality check (and resource) for me. As a former public school teacher I saw so many unwanted kids, hurt and run through the system…these kids that no one wanted…breaks my heart. You are are doing such a wonderful thing.
