We’re back! Gregory and I made it safely from Santa Barbara Airport to DFW yesterday. Our flights went extremely well, perfect even. We had great seats and were the VERY FIRST people to board, both times.
It was Gregory who was not perfect. He screamed the last 20 minutes of landing into Phoenix, not even stopping for air as we got off the plane. I had to go into the terminal, nurse him, and then come BACK for our suitcase, which, even though I was supposed to carry it on, had been checked at the last minute because of limited overhead storage space. I couldn’t count the number of STARES we got. Yes, we were THOSE people.
And then, he started screaming again, about 30 minutes AFTER we took off from Phoenix. Even the guy next to me, who said, “Don’t worry! I’m used to babies. I have two 11-month twins at home”, put on his headphones to try and drown out the noise. The only thing I could do was strip G down to his diaper and let him fall asleep while nursing. That’s another badge for the Mommy Belt. I nursed G quietly and discreetly while sandwiched next to two male strangers.
But we made it! Jesse, who sooo missed being a husband and father, took over everything the moment he picked us up (well, everything except…feeding). G was sooo tired that we put him in his crib (in his OWN room, even!) at 10:30pm and didn’t hear anything from him until 6am this morning! After I nursed him, he slept another 2 hours, where Jesse found him happily babbling away at around 9 (we actually aren’t sure how long it had been since he woke up).
Maybe the exhaustion from traveling was exactly what I needed in order to “let go” and keep G asleep in his own room and crib. Currently, he is even taking a nap in there, after self-soothing himself to sleep!!!
