For me, the beginning of summer always brings summer resolutions (because it’s hard to wait a whole year before you can get to New Years again!).
I don’t know all of my summer resolutions, but one of them is to start practicing the piano on a daily basis once again. Although my daily practicing sessions were never as long as my professor wanted, I was pretty good about making practice a part of my regular routine while I was at Biola. Since graduating, however, I have only been trying to make it to the piano once or twice a week- just enough to keep up dexterity, but not really learn anything new.
So, here it is in writing. My summer resolution. For an even more tangible goal, I would like to actually finish and conquer one of the last songs I was working on at Biola, Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu. I picked it up and sight-read the first page or two today, but the minute page 3 hit….let’s just say, I’m going to need a lot of work if I’m ever going to get to page 12 without swearing off piano forever (which would make a significant dent in our monthly paycheck!).
SO basically, if you see me and remember, remind me to practice. And check for any broken piano keys in our office.
If you want to hear the song, here is a video of some Asian guy with weird facial expressions playing it.

Hey, I learned that piece back in high school and there’s no chance I could still play it today… you’ve inspired me with a summer goal to re-learn it. Good luck with your practicing!
