We had a wonderful 4th of July! While I sure enjoyed this day last year (I was with my family, 6 months preggo, watching fireworks under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco!), Jesse did not, seeing as he had to stay in TX to work. He spent the day alone…by himself (and you’re thinking, um, isn’t that what “alone” means?).
Today was quite the opposite of alone! We started off by hosting the Folsoms and the Unruhs for a bacon/eggs/waffles/cinnamon rolls/orange juice breakfast/brunch.
Everyone left at around 1pm, at which time Gregory went down for his second nap (he also practically missed the brunch, seeing as the sleepy-head napped from 8:45-11:30am!). I went down to the pool to swim my daily round of laps, and Jesse stayed upstairs to do “Power Yoga” (he’s really into it, nowadays!). When I came back up, Jesse and I did a Windsor Pilates video together, and then I fed Gregory his third (of four!) solid food for the day while Jesse went to our apartment complex’s fitness center to lift some weights.
Sounds busy, doesn’t it?
But we’re not done yet!
At around 5:45pm, the Unruhs came back over to our place, where we all went swimming in the pool (yes, 2x for me!). All 3 “babies” just love the water so much! We took turns with each kid, passing them around as we helped them “swim”, played in the fountain, sat in the 6 in. kiddie area….
After the babes were all dressed in their sleepers (G also received his FOURTH solid meal of the day…) and put into bed, we ate shredded pork sandwiches with coleslaw and Texas baked beans. I must do shredded pork again sometime! Sooo easy! We just stuck the pork into our Crockpot with a can of Rootbeer…6 hours later, we stirred in BBQ sauce, as the pork basically shredded itself from the stirring! SOOO GOOD.
The rest of the night was spent talking, drinking beer and coffee (separately…honest), eating Lemon Bars and BlueBell icecream, smoking (just the boys did), watching funny videos on Youtube…
I’m sure I could make some philosophic statement about how we actually were patriotic in that we were clearly enjoying the freedom won for us by those who have gone before, but even people in oppressed countries manage to fellowship and have a good time.
Haha, that’s actually a cop-out. The real truth is that I am tired and should be sleeping!
