What do you like to do at 2am in the morning?
What’s that?
I know you said, “Why, I love making 30 jars of Babyfood!”
That warms my heart, just a little. I feel like we could be friends.
Yes, I stayed up late to make baby food. Actually, I finished around midnight (I was getting my SYTYCD re-runs on at the same time so I was *ahem* distracted).
But then it was time to clean the kitchen. Which is soooo easy to do when no one else is awake, it’s kind of exhilarating.
Can I hear an AMEN?
And then it was time to pump for my usual second time tonight, seeing as I get home from piano lessons just after G’s been put to bed and used a pumped bottle.
After the bad teething day we had, I decided to research for any cheap, easy to buy teething products that don’t contain BPA or Phthlates.
Oh, and the biggest need: more storage containers for pumping milk. I have only 2 bags left for storage, because I’ve used all 20 in the past month. Seriously. I have 17 bottles-worth (Gregory eats 4-5 oz. at a time) of stored milk right now!!! I actually don’t know what to do with it all. I leave one for Jesse to use on the days that I teach (Monday-Thurs), but I immediately replace what was used when I get home and pump during dinner. And then, I pump a second time, 3 hours later, so as not to go over 5 hours without pumping or feeding (I’m paranoid about losing my milk supply, can you blame me? It happened once, it can happen again!).
Since our freezer is stuffed to the brim with fruit, veggie AND boob juice food for G, we are running out of room. I have to find a way to keep my milk supply up without needing a second freezer!
So, instead of storing it, I now use the 2nd bottle that I pump for all of G’s oatmeal and babyfood feedings during the day, using 1-2 oz. to stir in at each feeding (THREE FOOD FEEDINGS A DAY, PLUS NURSING FULLTIME. THIS KID EATS SOOO MUCH FOOD!). I like this solution, because it means I am sneaking in a whole extra bottle of milk into all his cereal! And no need to store more milk! One problem solved.
There is still another problem, however. We seem to have a bottle-thief. All of my Medela bottles that fit the breast pump have mysteriously gone missing. I have 2 left when I used to have 8.
Oh well. I wanted to replace them with glass ones anyways, seeing as they were hand-me-downs (from a reputable source! Ah! I can feel you judging me! Stop it!).
Only, new Medela-glass-bottles-that-fit-my- pump (say that 10x fast!) are expensive! No bueno.
And then came my “AHA!” moment. My treasure of a find. My “this is what the show is all about” talented star (WAAAY too much SYTYCD tonight, that’s for sure…).
Introducing….
Somehow, I figured out that these little beauties will fit my pump just fine (okay, I’m not that talented. I read reviews).
And, not only are they BPA-free, being GLASS and all, they are dirt cheap. Like dirt dirt dirt cheap. You can buy them at Walmart, in fact. I got mine on Amazon– 11.99 for a pack of SIX. Did I mention that they are nice, durable glass? AND come with a lid and nipple?
Sorry, this just boggles my mind. Here, Medela is trying to sell the same thing, for 3x as much! Who do they take me for, anyways?
Oh, it feels good! I’ve outsmarted the system!
Wow. I just realized how paranoid that sounded.
Perhaps I should actually made time to sleep….yes, that would be wise. Then, perhaps, I can not only beat the system, but I can string together functional sentences when I meet with my MA thesis advisor tomorrow!
Oh yes, did you forget about that? Underneath this Mommy Shell, I am a student, about to get a Masters Degree in English. Somewhere, deep down in there, is someone who used to translate large sections of Virgilian Prose.
No more. To bed.
