So, my midwife has been a bit worried about my weight gain…it’s not the total pounds gained– that’s actually below avg. It’s the fact that for the last two months, I’ve gained 5 lbs./appt., making for a 15 lb. total weight gain on my last visit, July 13th. They knew that if I kept going at that rate, I was going to have gained 40-50 lbs. by the end of this thing! That’s a normal weight gain, if you look at the avg. preggo American, but the birth center has pretty strict health standards, seeing as the risk of complications increases when you gain more than 35 lbs.
But…I’m happy to report that I’ve only gained 1 lb. since then! The midwife said that it is all Gregory, since he should have gained a pound in body mass in the last 3 weeks.
So I’m now almost 29 weeks, with 11 weeks to go, and I’ve only gained 16 lbs. total! I guess my “Saturday Binge Day” while Joe was here (IHOP for breakfast, scoop of icecream after lunch, a bag of donuts with Julie!) didn’t actually cause me to gain any weight…whew!
And, if I gain 1 lb. a week (like they recommend for the 3rd trimester…yikes!) then I will be right at my goal– between 25-30 lbs. for this entire pregnancy. This makes me very excited, because about 1/2 of that will go away the day I give birth. 10-15 pounds to lose after that? No sweat!! Breastfeeding will “supposedly” take care of most of that in and of itself, what with the 500-700 calories one burns every day feeding the baby.
I totally just celebrated with a mini ice-cream sandwich. And followed it up with a bowl of grilled veggies and tofu from last night’s dinner. Oh well, that just makes me one big oxymoron today!
